1/2 a block from the Historic Claremont Resort this old brown shingle, set far back from the street, had to incorporate many elements in its front space - the main walk to the front door from the sidewalk, a bbq area off the kitchen, a big table with chairs, fire table and seating surround, trellising, slanted arbors to provide privacy from the looming house next door, as well as redwoods holding court in the middle of it all, the whole deal organized on a slope from the street down.  The shingled fence and black capped columns unify the architecture of the house to the garden, and once you’re inside the gate, you wander through a private oasis.
