The Berkeley Hills are adorned with many homes hugging hillsides, perched far above grade. This lovely contemporary needed a front garden for viewing and welcoming people, with access to quarters below. By regrading and surfacing, the driveway changed from a hindrance to a usable, safe, attractive entry. Using colored concrete, stone and wood, in a modernist, Japanese inspired fashion, and giving flow where none had been, Tim and Lisa answered the challenges of the site and desires of the homeowners.
